| Revelation | 2010 (15 songs, total running time 67:37) A committee of Jones most ardent and knowledgeable supporters hand selected each piece here from discs released 1991-2006. The disc was made possible by the generous gift of Minot Davis, whose sense of inevitability about JPs music led him to conceive of and cause to be produced a compilation project. This is a great starter disc for the uninitiated fan. Compelling performances and some of Jones best songs. Limited edition, avaialable only by mail or at shows. (catalog# 13, UPC 884501381727.) | |
2006 (11 songs, total running time 57:56) Ten months in the making, Magical Thinking features songs written in three different decades and (after two solo acoustic releases) eclectic, fully produced musical landscapes. Jones tackles jazz, folk and blues, leads with the Springsteen-esque anthem A Man Stands Up and closes with a 14:54 story song: The Fire and The Rose. Marty Ballou (bass) and Vinny Pagano (drums) are featured throughout. Guest musicians include a 3-song cameo by blues legend Paul Geremia and a host of Jones friends and co-conspirators. | Thugs and Lovers | 2005 (12 songs, total running time 42.40) With Jones' 11th CD release (and his second solo-acoustic endeavor) the listener is brought closer than ever before to the songwriter's process. For the most part these songs were self-recorded just as they were written, often on the same day. What results is a powerful and passionate record painted with a poet's brush in dark images of despair and bright redemption. "Thugs and Lovers' should be on many "best of 2005" lists. It will be on mine." - Kevin McCarthy, Kevin's Celtic and Folk CD reviews. (Catalog # 222005, UPC 783707059907) Download from iTunes | |
| Jeremiah | 2004 (11 songs, one spoken word piece, total running time approx. 58 min. ) Recorded in December 2003 and January 2004, Jeremiah is Jones' first totally solo - 100% acoustic - release. Accompanying himself only on guitar and rack harp, Jones serves up one traditional song and ten new originals as well as the mythic short story Abu. The discs' signature song, Prophet in His Prime, provides insight into the poets' vision and sets the tone for what is to be one remarkable disc. | Life and Death | 2003 (11 songs, total running time 47:10) Recorded live in January 2003 at Lloyd Salisbury's Flat Rock Studios in Moosup, CT with 7-piece band Rite Tite, Life and Death is JP's best and most diverse collection of songs to date. Rite Tite tackles it all: punk to folk to funk and jazz, but what unites the disc is its vision of opposites: black and white, beauty and ugliness, birth, death, sex and salvation. Life and Death leaves nothing out and stays focused on what endures. (Catalogue # 031703, UPC 783707702629) Download from iTunes | |
| Salvation Street | 2001 (16 songs, total running time 70:10) Recorded live in the living room of Jones' tiny Newport, RI home, Salvation Street features Jones' touring band Rite Tite (Kurt Meyer; bass, Dave Lang; drums, Mike Barrette; electric guitar and Matt Neibels; percussion) and special guest appearances by Les Sampou, Barb Schloff-Arietta, Vinnie Pasternak and Mike Fishman. A folk/rock recording that doesn't forget to rock, the disc is savagely introspective at the core examining the artist's relationship with Daemon and purpose. | Back to Jerusalem | 2000 (11 songs and a sound collage, total running time 48:32) Expertly crafted songs with arrangements first sketched out as midi files then layered with acoustic overdubs, Back to Jerusalem is a diverse and stunning, close-to-pop collection that was named one of the "ten best folk releases of 2000" by Hugh Blumenfeld's about.folkmusic.com website. First and foremost a songwriter's record, Jones brings grace and conviction to each performance while setting each piece in a brilliant and uniquely produced soundscape. | Ashes | 1999 (11 songs, total running time 50:54) Dark and powerful throughout, Ashes is a stellar production featuring a spiritual soul and variety of musical styles. Backed by some of the best acoustic musicians in Southern New England, Jones weaves intense, haunting tales of trial and redemption. A fine and fully realized disc from a mature songwriter. | Angels on the Road | 1998 (15 songs, total running time 71:25) A 25-year retrospective of previously unreleased songs, Angels on the Road was recorded live (in studio) in three days during September 1998. Jones draws favorable comparisons with early Dylan and showcases the epic scope of a master story-teller with this release featuring the white-hot studio work of Vinnie Pasternak on fiddle, Mike Fischman on mandolin, Kurt Meyer on fretless bass, and Steve Tavares on drums. | Bard | 1997 (13 instrumental
compositions, total running time 44:10) Composed entirely on computer, Bard
maintains a traditional, sometimes Celtic and occasionally Classical feel despite
borrowing heavily from the verse/chorus format of the modern-day pop song. With grief as
its emotional core, Bard is challenging, yet accessible music unlike anything
expected from a contemporary singer/songwriter. (Catalogue #0597, UPC 612456059725)
